Shalyn Guthery is currently a junior undergraduate student at Iowa Sate University. She is majoring in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCBio) and plans on attending graduate school after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree. Her broad research interests include human genetics, disease, and viruses. She also plays the alto saxophone in the Iowa State University Cyclone Football 'Varsity' Marching Band and is a member of Tau Beta Sigma, a National Music Honor Sorority providing service for the bands.

In her free time, Shalyn enjoys traveling the world, trying new things, taking pictures and being creative.
